Backyard Makeover in Urbandale Creates Multiple Entertainment Areas

Remodeling Design+Build Outdoor Spaces

In this incredible backyard makeover, we had the pleasure of working with plenty of space. The existing outdoor design was not ideal for backyard entertaining, consistently mostly of flat grass and shaded decks and patios. We reshaped the area with an exciting new design featuring curvilinear decks and patios that create better views of the yard. The intriguing shapes also lend themselves to more sun, allowing this family both shady and sunny areas for playing and entertaining.

Our new design introduced much more entertainment and relaxation space, yet maintained a coziness and private feel throughout. A new freestanding hot tub makes a nice accent in the overall scene. The hot tub is designed to look built-in — an original request of our clients that they reconsidered after realizing the built-in option was not affordable or user-friendly. Instead our design team tucked the spa into the retaining wall so that it appears built-in while being easy to access. Castle ledge rock disguises part of the hot tub and provides steps to enter it.

The new stained and stamped patio is also surrounded by castle ledge rock. A stone retaining wall around the patio provides bench-height seating. The lower level patio area leads to an entertainment and bar area complete with a TV and island. Several seating options are available inviting people to gather. Even on a rainy day, guests can connect comfortably in this covered outdoor living room.

Spiral and curved staircases lead to the upper deck areas, offering a panoramic view. Trex composite decking on the upper deck areas offer a low-maintenance solution. The upper deck also features multiple areas to sit, stand or dine, including a drink rail. Notice the integrated lighting in the railing.
