The COVID-19 crisis has brought America’s childcare crisis into sharp relief. Millions of women are struggling to work while caring for—and in many cases teaching—their children. But our childcare system was broken long before the pandemic, especially for single parents and low-income families. What will it take to fix it once and for all?

In this episode, we talk to Fatima Goss Graves, President & CEO of the National Women’s Law Center, and Dr. Angela Rachidi, a researcher at the American Enterprise Institute, about what policymakers, businesses, and individuals can do to build a childcare system that works for all families.

More about our guests:

  • Fatima Goss Graves is the President and CEO of the National Women’s Law Center and has spent her career fighting for gender justice in the courts. She focuses on everyday issues in women’s lives, like childcare, income security, and workplace fairness. Fatima is also among the co-founders of the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund.
  • Dr. Angela Rachidi is a researcher at American Enterprise Institute, where she studies the effect of public policies and safety-net programs on low-income families.
