Malpaso
Hailing from Cuba, Malpaso is a passionate contemporary dance ensemble that embodies the rich culture of Havana. Under the leadership of choreographer and artistic director Osnel Delgado, the company works to bring Cuban contemporary dance into the 21st century by collaborating with top international choreographers and nurturing new voices in Cuban choreography.
Following Malpaso’s critically acclaimed international debut at The Joyce Theater in 2014, Malpaso continues to take the American dance world by storm. This ever-exciting ensemble makes its Des Moines premiere on the Des Moines Civic Center stage with Ocaso by Osnel Delgado, Indomitable Waltz by Aszure Barton, and Tabula Rasa by Ohad Naharin.
As Rebecca Gross observed for NEA Arts Magazine: “Watching the choreography of Aszure Barton is like watching the physical unfurling of the human psyche.” Malpaso Dance Company is an Associate Company of Joyce Theater Productions.

Pre-Show DANCEtalk
Join us at 6:30 PM at the Des Moines Civic Center on the day of the performance to learn more about Malpaso Dance Company and the evening's performance. We will be joined by a member of the company's artistic staff for a thirty minute chat that will include time for audience questions.
Post-Show DANCEtalk
Stay late after the Malpaso Dance Company performance at the Des Moines Civic Center for a Q&A with the dancers. Join us at the front of the theater immediately after the performance for a chance to hear directly from the dancers about their experiences.
