January 1, 2022: Juan Villa and Daniella Elizondo of North Carolina share their first kiss of the New Year seconds after the ball dropped in Times Square in Manhattan ushering in 2021. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent wave of Omicron infections, the number of people allowed in Times Square was lowered from the usual 60,000 to 15,000. All attendees had to show proof of full vaccination status.

January 2, 2022: Revellers in fancy dress participate in the annual Mummers Parade in Philadelphia. The Mummers Parade is a 120-year-old folk festival held annually to mark the new year, in which some 10,000 participants divided into themed groups march through the streets of Philadelphia.'Mummering' is a form of pantomime historically practiced by the poor, which first arrived in Philadelphia via Swedish immigrants in the late 17th century.

January 3, 2022: Elizabeth Holmes leaves federal court after the verdict in San Jose, Calif. Holmes was convicted of fraud for turning her blood-testing startup Theranos into a sophisticated sham that duped billionaires and other unwitting investors into backing a seemingly revolutionary company whose medical technology never worked as promised.

January 4, 2022: Northbound and southbound sections of Interstate 95 near Fredericksburg, Va., are closed because of snow and ice.

January 5, 2022: Pharmacy student Tesnim Shash tests people for COVID-19 at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center site in the medical district where they administered hundreds of tests to cars lined up around the block.

January 6, 2022: President Joe Biden speaks from Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol to mark the one year anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol by supporters loyal to then-President Donald Trump.

January 7, 2022: A porter at Parkview Owners Co-op on Rumsey Road in Yonkers, creates a pattern with his snowplow, after an overnight snowfall.

January 8, 2022: Firefighters work at the scene of a fourth-alarm fire in a 9,900 square foot mansion in Straban Township. No one was injured in the fire, which rendered the multi-million dollar mansion a total loss.

January 9, 2022: A Ukrainian soldier walks through the abandoned house at a line of separation from pro-Russian rebels, Donetsk region, Ukraine.

January 10, 2022: Indianapolis, IN, USA; Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (5) catches a touchdown pass while being guarded by Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Khyree Jackson (6) during the College Football Playoff National Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

January 11, 2022: Tori Thomas, 9, covers her nose from the burn smell while getting a piggy back ride on her mother Angel’s back as they two walked through the charred remains of their home. Angel Thomas, right, and her five children escaped the burning home early Sunday morning.
