Contemporary Issues in Accounting Conference

The Ivy College of Business Department of Accounting will host the 21st annual Contemporary Issues in Accounting Conference on Friday, December 15, at Iowa State University.
Learn from industry leaders and enjoy a day on campus while you earn eight credits of continuing professional education. This year’s conference features four keynote speakers:
- Wes Sowers, Audit Partner, Deloitte
- Peter Orazem, University Professor of Economics, Iowa State University
- Brian Mulcahy, Assistant Executive Director, Des Moines Airport Authority
- Julie Haverly, Director, Integrated Go-to-Market at Chevron

Continuing Professional Education
Eight credits of continuing professional education will be offered, including two credits of ethics education. CPE credits from this conference are accepted by the Iowa Accountancy Examining Board. Out-of-state participants should check with their state board of accountancy to determine eligibility.

Option A: “Navigating Financial Literacy in the Social Media Era: Empowering Accountants for Effective Communication”

In an age dominated by social media, the art of communicating financial literacy has evolved. This proposal aims to equip accountants with the essential skills to effectively disseminate financial knowledge through various social media platforms. From crafting engaging content to leveraging interactive tools, attendees will gain invaluable insights into maximizing their impact in the digital realm.
Option B: “Transforming Finance: Exploring the Impact of Generative AI on the Accounting Profession”
Diane Janvrin, William L. Varner Professor of Accounting, Iowa State University
This session will show you the basics of generative AI including Open AI’s ChatGPT and its risk and rewards. In addition, we will discuss how accounting professionals may use this new emerging technology to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend the conference, you must notify Registration Services by noon on December 8 to receive a full refund or transfer your registration to another person. We are unable to process refunds after the December 8 deadline.
